SunRay’s Gypsy Wagon

SunRay's Gypsy Wagon

The world’s first Solar Electric Hybrid Motor Home!

SunRay Kelley is putting together an original camper inspired by gypsy caravans. Using a vintage 1984 Toyota dolphin camper vehicle as base, he removed the camper shell, and built a camper home frame out of recycled aluminum. Dubbed the Gypsy Wagon, it runs on a solar/electric/diesel hybrid power plant. Sunray is trying his best to realize his own vision for a green mobile home vehicle.

The sidings are cedar, there’s a front solarium, a rear window stained glass, and even a back porch. This mobile home will put Chitty-chitty-bang bang to shame with its list of weird innovations.  It is envisioned to have 3,000 watts of solar panels, a 12 inch GE electric motor, as well as two 156-volt banks of lithium iron phosphate batteries. A four-cylinder 1,500 cc diesel motor will propel this baby on biodiesel.

The batteries can be charged in three different ways: first, by plugging it into a typical 110-volt electrical outlet; second, via the PV array mounted on the roof and wings; and third, thru a 26-kw Perkins diesel powered generator. As SunRay explains his concept vehicle, “Trains have for years been run with an electric motor powered by a diesel generator.”

SunRay is obviously bitten by the inventor’s bug, given his list of innovations and ideas for the one-of-a-kind Gypsy Wagon.  Sunray would also love to have the backing of some well-meaning, green driven investors out there. SunRay, just like all pioneering individuals, is working on a very tiny, miniscule budget and could surely use financial backing. It’s a great and wonderful concept project that can both enlighten and motivate other people to utilize alternative sources of energy, recycled materials and out-of-the-box designs to create trailblazing inventions such as the Gypsy Wagon.
